Tour de Pologne 2021 wild cards – Alpecin-Fenix confirms its participation
The second wild card for the Tour de Pologne it’s up to the Alpecin-Fenix team which stands up for a multidisciplinary approach.
The unveiling of the wild cards for the 78th edition of the Tour de Pologne continues and the second one rightfully goes to the Alpecin-Fenix team as winner of the UCI Europe Tour rankings 2020.
The Belgian team which confirmed its presence at the start, is certainly unique in the cycling panorama because of its multidisciplinary approach. Considering the three National Championships’ titles in a row scored by the Cyclocross’ World Champion Mathieu Van der Poel to the Mediterranean Epic stage won by Samuel Gaze, it’s clear that for the Alpecin-Fenix team it’s a priority to perform in all the possible disciplines.
The team managers Philip and Christoph Roodhooft confirm that they’re really pleased to be part of the Polish race with their squad. – Winning last year’s UCI Europe Tour enabled us to discover lots of WorldTour races in 2021 – they said – We look forward to our first participation at the Tour de Pologne, which is always a challenging race with a strong field of competitors. We will surely have a strong lineup for this race, with which we hope to get some nice results in the stages. We also look forward to riding in Poland again. We don’t get to race here often, but it’s a country that offers a variety of terrains and locations: a natural environment perfectly suited for cycling.
Czesław Lang explains how he’s impressed by the aptitude of this growing team. – Alpecin-Fenix is a complete team where it can be found plenty of talented riders. As well as the cycling phenomenon Mathieu Van der Poel, there are pretty interesting athletes such as Tim Merlier and Jasper Philipsen who recently demonstrated once again how different disciplines can help to form a champion. I’m pretty curious about what this team can show in their first appearance at the Tour de Pologne.
