16.08.2024 Stage 5 – KATOWICE – KATOWICE – 187,6 km
The Tour de Pologne regularly visits Katowice, and this time will be no different. The capital of the Silesian Voivodeship will host both the start and finish of the 5th stage of the race. The 187-kilometer route will be varied and feature many climbs, amounting to over 1500 meters of elevation gain. Although the stage will favor sprinters, it will not be an easy passage.
Twenty-one kilometers after the start, in Jaworzno, the first LOTTO sprint bonus will be located. Riders will then enter the Kraków-Częstochowa Jura and showcase the beauty and charm of the Trail of the Eagles’ Nests. The peloton will visit well-known places such as Ojców, where riders can compete for the PZU III category KOM. They will then return to Silesia, passing through the Decathlon special bonus in Bukowno and the LOTTO sprint bonus in Mysłowice.
Soon after, they will enter Katowice, stopping at the famous Nikiszowiec district, from where only 11 kilometers remain to the finish. The finish will be located under the Katowice Spodek, on Walenty Roździeński Avenue.
“The fifth stage will start and finish in Katowice, but it will also be a unique stage. We will ride the ‘Trail of the Eagles’ Nests’ – passing through Mysłowice, Jaworzno, we want to present the Kraków-Częstochowa Jura to viewers and riders. It won’t be an easy stage, as the elevation gain will be about 1500 meters. From a tourist point of view, it will be a beautiful stage, similar to those in Lower Silesia,” said Czesław Lang, highlighting the charm of the Kraków-Częstochowa Jura and the castles built on it, known as the “Eagles’ Nests.”
Katowice has a rich history in the Tour de Pologne, and in recent years, winners there have included Mattia Cattaneo, Remi Cavagna, Fabio Jakobsen, Pascal Ackermann, and Fernando Gaviria. Who will join this group this year?
